We all know Jack Nicholson did a remarkable job at playing the Joker in Tim Burton’s version of Batman, but the absolute best and my ultimate favorite would have to be Heath Ledger’s take in The Dark Knight. I can’t imagine that part played by any other actor. I mean, he literally locked himself in a motel room for forty-three days, isolated and alone with his thoughts, to perfect the crazed Joker we all saw on screen. He also had a diary full of sad news stories and other Joker-esque things to bring him back to his character, and kept it with him at all times on set in case he needed a reminder of who he was playing. He went into really great depths to get the character right, and that’s part of the reason why he, at least in my opinion, was the best Joker out of every other actor we have seen portray the character.
