A set of Advanced Contact Lenses were used by Batman in his operations. Storing cameras and audio recording equipment, they were often used to record his activities and gather clues in his investigations. The lenses' records could be view via his computer network, with some equipment allowing Batman live feeds from them.
History[]
Bruce Wayne had created the contact lenses before the Riddler's attacks on Gotham. He frequently made use of them to remind himself of each night's events, often referring them to for his journals.
On the night of Don Mitchell Jr.'s murder, Batman used the cameras to record clues he discovered during his visit to the crime scene. At the Subway Bunker, he used their footage to capture images of a message and cryptograph left by him by Riddler, printing these out so he could work on them with Alfred.
When he sent Selina Kyle into the 44 Below, Batman gave her a set of the lenses so that he could monitor her and identify potential Riddler targets. The lenses were directly connected to a remote laptop and signal boosting equipment set up by Batman in a nearby abandoned apartment, allowing him to get live feeds and get photo-IDs for each person Kyle saw in the club. Selina was unconformable wearing the lenses, worrying that someone would spot she was wearing them. Through the cameras, Batman was able to identify various officials connected to the Falcone Crime Syndicate, including Dt. Kenzie, and watch Kyle's conversation with Gil Colson.
Selina later removed and cut the feed to the lenses when Batman confronted her on interaction between her and Carmine Falcone, though kept them in her possession. After discovering the body of Annika Kosolov during a heist from the Penguin, Kyle reactivated the cameras hoping to meet with him. After he noticed the feed was working from his mainframe servers, Batman communicated with Kyle and they arranged to a meeting at an abandoned building.
Behind the Scenes[]
The Contact Lenses were presumably influenced by similar lenses used by Batman during the Court of Owls saga. They were designed by Jamie Wilkinson, who created and designed most of the gadgets used in the film. According to Wilkinson, the lenses recordings were stored on a memory card kept on Batman's Utility Belt. The cameras also contain satellite technology, allowing Batman to trace their location, and were capable of heat recognition.[1]
