Alan Burnett is an American writer and producer. From 1992 to 2019, he served as producer for multiple animated television shows and media centered around the Batman franchise.
Career[]
Burnett first served as a producer and writer for Batman: The Animated Series alongside Bruce Timm, continuing these duties for multiple DC Animated Universe projects such as The New Batman Adventures and Batman Beyond. Burnett wrote for multiple episodes in the shows, often creating the storylines or serving as their story editor. His most notable stories include "Two-Face: Part I", "Mudslide", "Riddler's Reform", "Judgement Day", "Rebirth: Part I", and "Meltdown".
Burnett also served as a producer and writer for Superman: The Animated Series, even co-writing the story with Paul Dini for the three-part Batman crossover "World's Finest". Burnett also produced and co-wrote films set in the DCAU, including Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman and Chase Me.
Burnett also served as producer for 2004's The Batman animated series and its spin-off film The Batman vs. Dracula, even writing the two-part story "The Batman/Superman Story". Burnett also wrote the segment "Deadshot" for Batman: Gotham Knight and the episode "Bold Beginnings!" for Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
From 2009 to 2019, Burnett served as producer for multiple animated Batman films, including animated adaptations of comics like Year One, The Dark Knight Returns and The Killing Joke. He also continued these duties for two Superman/Batman films based on the comic series of the same name, Batman: Under the Red Hood and the Arkham games tie-in film Batman: Assault on Arkham. Burnett served as producer on the DC Animated Movie Universe films, most notably Son of Batman, Batman vs. Robin, Batman: Bad Blood and Batman: Hush. Among the other Batman projects he was involved in during this era were Justice League: Gods and Monsters, Batman and Harley Quinn, Batman vs. Two-Face and Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.
Outside of animated films and television, Burnett has also written for multiple DC Comics series, including the aforementioned Superman/Batman series, The Flash (Volume 2), Justice League of America (Volume 2), and Batman: The Adventures Continue. Due to his involvement in the DCAU, Burnett is often credited for the creation of various characters who'd be adapted into DC's main continuities, including Terry McGinnis, Dana Tan, the Phantasm and Blight (though the latter was actually co-created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini).
