Alberto Falcone was the son of Carmine Falcone.
Biography[]
Alberto was born to Carmine Falcone and unnamed mother in Gotham City. His father was the head of the Falcone Crime Family and ruled the city’s criminal underworld. His mother having left her husband early on, Alberto was sent away by Carmine and mostly forgotten, at least until his graduation.
Falling in Love[]
At Oxford University, where he was studying economics, he met and fell in love with a woman named Gilda and began a relationship with her. After some time, Gilda told him she was pregnant, and they both got married on the same day. But Alberto's father would not accept an illegitimate child and forced them not only to separate, but also to abort the child, which broke Gilda mentally. Alberto later blamed himself for this. He then returned to Gotham and worked as an assistant for his father in his less legal work, though he was never allowed to participate fully or make decisions of his own. Often, the only thing he did except being present was solving some crossword puzzles, such as when his father tried to convince Bruce Wayne of a possible business alliance.
The Long Halloween[]
When on Alberto's cousin, Johnny, was murdered on Halloween night, he was present when a meeting held with every head of the Falcone family was held by his father. During the meeting, he once again didn’t participate and merely solved some crossword riddles. After Antoni, one of his father’s accomplices, was thrown down the staircase by Falcone's bodyguard, Milos Grapa, Carmine sent Alberto out of the room to discuss some private businesses with his subordinates, though not without embarrassing his son in front of the others. Alberto was also present later that night when his father ordered Mickey Chen to assassinate district attorney Harvey Dent, who ironically was the new husband of his ex-wife Gilda.
After said assassination attempt had failed and Dent had been hospitalized, Alberto was having a talk with his father, while Carmine prepared dinner for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. He told his son that Dent merely still lived because he allowed him to and that Oxford had changed him for the worse, which was the reason why he was never let in charge of anything in the family. Alberto then tried to explain to his father that he indeed did something of worth for the family, by sending flowers to Gilda Dent, in the name of the Falcone family, in an effort to seem less suspicious. This angered Carmine very much, but not because it would make them look even more guilty, but rather because the sole thought of Alberto speaking for the family deeply enraged him. He chocked Alberto and reminded him that he would never have anything to say in the family business, due to his weakness.
Death[]
On New Year's Eve, Alberto was present on the Falcone Yacht, and stood in the background while his father gave his speech about how he wanted to change Gotham city for the better. While he was listening, there was a short moment in which Alberto believed that his father could maybe for the first time show him some respect and honor him, due to his father mentioning a very special person who was part of the family, even though he rarely let him feel like that. Naturally, Alberto felt honored and even prepared to walk into the spotlight, before hearing the name his father would speak next, Bruce Wayne. Enraged and angry about this, Alberto hid away in loneliness for the rest of the evening at the rear of the ship.
After some time and just a few minutes before midnight, a woman whose name was Selina Kyle visited him and began a conversation with him, asking him how it was to be brought up in Gotham under the Falcone name. Alberto replied that he wouldn’t know, seeing as he had been sent away. He also told her about his past wife and that his father did not approve of it and forced him to end the relationship, though he did not mention his former wife's name. They bonded and Alberto even wanted to kiss Selina, but she quickly backed away and wanted to explain to him why they could not do this, her being his sister secretly. But before she got the chance to, the masked vigilante Batman appeared and accused Alberto of being the Holiday killer, whom he had been chasing for a while. His theory was that Alberto wanted his father to tighten the inner circle of the family, and that Alberto had killed his cousin and the others to force him to do that, but Alberto denied it. He tried to explain that he did not even want to have anything to do with the Falcone family, much less be the leader of it. Then, as the clock struck 12, an unknown individual, the Holiday killer, shot Alberto through the stomach. While Batman and Selina watched him bleed out confused, Alberto had realized that none other than his former love Gilda had been behind the killings, and that his time had come now. He tried to give them hints about her identity but was shot multiple times more and as a result, fell off the railing and sunk to the ocean, where his body was torn apart by the yacht's propeller, with the only things of him that reappeared at the surface being shreds of his last crossword puzzle. Gilda managed to escape and Alberto, or at least what was found of him, was later buried on the graveyard.
After his death, his father admitted that he should have been a better father to his son and regretted how he treated Alberto. On the other hand, though, Gilda showed no regret of murdering the former love of her life in cold blood, likely due to him not stopping his father of aborting her child. His death would later haunt Batman, who due to not finding the correct suspect, caused him to die.
