Behind the Scenes[]
Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Joel Schumacher elaborated on how he got the role in separate interviews.
Schumacher would state, “When casting Mr. Freeze, Arnold just seemed perfect and it was easy to see this big Austrian in the suit.”
Schwarzenegger would state, “I had seen the other Batman movies and I had enjoyed them thoroughly. I was asked by Joel if I would meet him for lunch and he told me that he would like me to play Mr. Freeze. The kicker was that he said ‘if you don’t do the movie, I won’t do it’. So, what am I gonna do?”
