Batman's T-Rex or, "Fido", is an animatronic kept in the Batcave by Batman. It is an animatronic resembling an out-dated reconstruction of the extinct anima Tyrannosaurus-Rex. It is kept in the Batcave as a staple trophy but is sometimes shown to be a security mechanism as-well.

History[]

Isle That Time Forgot[]

The original robotic T-Rex was battled by Batman on the Isle That Time Forgot.

Dinosaur Island[]

Years later a second animatronic T-Rex was created as part of the theme-park Dinosaur Island where guests could travel to see and hunt recreations of long extinct animals. When a criminal named Stephen Chase hacked into the park's system, the T-Rex was one of many animatronics which attempted to kill the visiting Batman and Robin.

Following this adventure, the park-owner Murray Wilson Hart gave the Dynamic Duo at-least two of the animatronics as gifts in-the form of the T-Rex and Brontosaurus. Both would come to be placed in the Batcave's trophy-room although the T-Rex would become much more of a consistent staple.

Silver Age[]

The T-Rex was never truly explained during the Silver Age, implying a matching history matching with Earth-2 of the so-called Golden Age. It was also portrayed as the only T-Rex in the Bat-cave's trophy-room.

Post-Crisis New Earth (1986)[]

The backstory of the T-Rex animatronic is updated in post-crisis continuity within the story Batman Chronicles #8 where we learn Dinosaur Island was intended to be an informational amusement park created by Murray Hart, an old friend of the Wayne Family.

Hart's partner Stephen Chase however wanted the park to be a horror attraction and killed him over it. When Batman learned of this, he pursued Chase through the park only to be attacked by the T-Rex, controlled by Chase. Batman pursued but ultimately became grief-stricken with the thought that his crime-fighting couldn't truly save people. At Alfred's request, Batman installed the T-Rex in the cave as a tribute to all of the good which Batman did do for the people of Gotham.

When Hush invaded the Batcave, Batman activated the T-Rex to attack him.

New 52 Prime Earth (2011)[]

When the Talons of the Court of Owls attacked the Batcave, the T-Rex (nicknamed Fido) was one of Bruce's measures used to attack them.

Notes[]

The design of the T-Rex is subject to many inaccuracies with the real-life T-Rex species. In its original appearances it had three fingered claws and walked upright with its tail dragging on the ground. In real life, T-Rexes had 2 fingers per-claw and walked with their tail and bodies levelled like a bird. It is also consistently shown to be completely scaly whereas the historic T-Rex is believed to have had feathers lining its head, back and tail.

Alternate versions[]

Appearances in Other Media[]

  • DCAU: Originally it was planned for the T-Rex to be a robot dinosaur appearing in an episode of Superman: The Animated Series. In this episode, Lex Luthor used the dinosaur to try and kill Superman after trapping the Man of Steel in a museum with kryptonite relics. Superman survived and escaped however with the DVD cut stating it was originally planned for Superman to give the T-Rex to Batman. Later we would be given a different origin when Calendar Girl used a similar T-Rex to attack Batman and the 2nd Robin, Tim Drake. Robin remarks that they should keep it with Batman saying no due to how difficult it would be to transport. After this, the dinosaur could be seen in the Batcave.
  • Batman LEGO Video-Games:
  • Batman: Arkham Knight: The dinosaur appears in the Batcave challenge map of the game. There is also a possible reference to it in Batman: Arkham City within The Penguin's lair at the Pinkney Museum. When you first infiltrate the museum, a life-sized T-Rex animatronic roars at you only to be revealed as a piece of machinery.
  • The Lego Batman Movie: The T-Rex can briefly be spotted in the background of the Batcave.
  • Harley Quinn (show):
