Batman: Shaman was the first story featured in the Legends of the Dark Knight series, debuting in the fall of 1989. Shaman is Denny O'Neil's attempt to expand on Batman's origin in Batman: Year One depicting Bruce's decision to explore the cave beneath Wayne Manor. O'Neil also presents a new omen that also gives the Window Bat more relevance to his sudden decision to "become a bat."
