"Shadows: Chapter Three"[]
Synopsis[]
Still knocked unconscious, Harvey dreams of rescuing Drake and becoming hailed as a hero in Gotham. His career receives great success from his activities and he is elected governor. During it, Harvey comes to the conclusion that Bruce is responsible for Batman, hiring mercenaries to perform the vigilante's activities and masterminding their activities. As the sequence ends, Harvey is given a coin toss by Otis, the result of which coming up tails.
In the Royal Autobody, Bruce Wayne and Drake Winston pull Harvey to safety from the blaze mere seconds before another explosion goes off. To everyone's horror, they learn that half of Dent's face has been disfigured by the leaking battery acid. As he's taken away, Bruce informs Drake that he'd likely breathed in the chemicals, causing damage to his lungs. Travelling with him and the paramedics, Barbara learns he may have only six months to live.
As he attempts to leave quietly, Bruce is interviewed by both press and police. During it, he learns that Drake had seen the perps escape and possibly suspects he was responsible. As he returns to Wayne Manor, Bruce learns he's become a media sensation for his actions within Burnside. Knowing the Batmen had targeted him for stopping their robbery, Drake refuses offers to stay at other residents' homes for their protection. He also loses all his possessions due to the fire.
The following morning, Bruce learns that the media have begun focusing their attention onto him. He also informs Alfred of his encounter with Selina and his suspicions that Drake had seen his involvement in the capture of the "Batmen". Meanwhile, the arsonists are released on bail and file a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the GCPD for their brutalizing at "Robin" and Catwoman's hands.
Visiting the hospital, Bruce attempts to arrange for Harvey to receive plastic surgery to heal his injuries, planning to cover the expense himself. Dent, however, has begun hallucinating a second version of himself, whom he believes to be from his ideal world. This Harvey presents him with multiple other events and consequences, including one where he died in a car accident instead of his mother and another where he'd been arrested for an act of vandalism. The hallucination convinces Dent that every decision is played out in every reality, and this can be achieved by flipping a coin .When he awakens, Dent begins displaying a more aggressive persona and disfigures his double-headed coin, using it to decide whether Barbara "loves him or not".
From a message received from Selina, Batman tracks Catwoman to the rooftops near Shreck's, where they'd first encountered each other as their alter-egos. Catching up and flirting with each other, he offers to take her away from Gotham. When Selina shares details of her employment, though Batman expresses concerns about the legality. Catwoman, however, confronts him on his focus on Gotham's street crimes and inaction to the white collar crimes committed by the rich, claiming she'd begun focusing on them. Batman also learns that she's begun talking to a psychiatrist about her activities, though also learns that the vigilante he encountered is also seeing her.
Their conversation is cut short when a series of fires begin around Gotham. Dent, meanwhile, flips his coin to decide whether to continue fighting "for the soul of Gotham", the choice coming up as tails.
