the Batman has joined many exclusive clubs of unusual origin in order to catch criminals. But "The Death-Cheaters Club" tops them all. It consists of men who were declared legally dead by doctors and t hen successfully revived. The causes of death were as varied as epilepsy;poisoning;snakebite;and asphyxiation.
Someone is murdering the club members by the identical means of the original deaths. After foiling three murder attempts, Batman senses the killer is one of the club members because he knows too much about the personal habits of the other members. this eliminates "red herring" Little Dougy; a mobster who was revived on t he operating t able after being "shot to death" in a gang war. he was refused membership because of his criminal record, and had made threats.
As Bruce Wayne, he arranges to be publicly poisoned, trusting Robin to bring him back to life by artificial respiration(he has researched the rare poison thoroughly). It works out. When the murderer tries to kill Bruce Wayne,he escapes but a fight reveals him to be wearing a disguise.
The killer is revealed to be Jeff Sievers, the club's accountant, who had been embezzling from the other members. He had faked his own death by epilepsy. During t he fight, his fountain pen leaked red ink,and Batman assumed only an accountant would carry such a pen.
