Noted archeologist Guy Hawtree has made an astonishing discovery---an intact Mayan civilization town, complete with a hoard of gold. Hawtree is vehement that the location must be kept secret, and has gone to live on the premises. He
says there is a clue to the city's location if nobody hears from him in three months time.
Somebody is determined to find out the location and isn't shy about endangering the public.Army Ants are released from the Natural History Museum as a blind ,while Hawtree's office is ransacked for clues. Batman and Robin barricade the ants in a confined space and get involved in the case.Herbert Merton, the Museum Curator---and his assistant Blanning seem too eager to know the location. At a gigantic map-making factory, batman discovers Hawtree had made numerous visits there to study the layout of a realistic world globe atop a tall skyscraper. Somebody comes up with a unique delaying tactic---opening huge vats of colored ink and starting a flood.
While Batman mops up the mess, Robin goes on ahead to the skyscraper globe and finds himself getting his finger stepped on by a masked assailant. Batman arrives in times to rescue him, and they notice a chunk of the globe has been carved out.Batman decides Blanning is the thief, because all the other suspects were smart enough to MEMORIZE the location rather than carrying a "reminder" around with them.
A jet plane race to the Lost City has Blanning victimized by his own greed---he tries to push a huge golden object onto Batman, only to find it red-hot from constant exposure to the sun.
