The Batwing (sometimes referred to as the Batplane) was an aircraft used by Batman. It was often used to patrol the skies of Gotham and battle enemies via the air. The Batwing could also be controlled remotely from the Batcave computer system. The Batwing was used during Batman's alliance with Superman and the Justice League.

The Batwing arrives at Gotham Docks

The Batwing was created prior to Batman's fight with Superman. After learning of Lex Luthor's manipulation of him into fighting the Man of Steel, Batman used it to travel to a warehouse used by Anatoli Knyazev and his men to hold Martha Kent prisoner. He used its weaponry to destroy the armaments guarding the building, including three henchmen using a vehicle-attached gattling gun. Whilst Batman inflitrated the warehouse, the vehicle was controlled by Alfred through the central computer console in the Batcave.

Batman later returned to the vehicle to get to Stryker's Island and help Superman battle Doomsday. After realizing that his Kryptonite Spear could kill the creature, Batman used its weapons to get the creature's attention and lure it back to Wayne Station. However, Doomsday used its heat-vision to destroy one of its wings before Batman could reach the intended destination, forcing him to crash land the plane. Batman abandoned the Batwing's remnants when Superman and Wonder Woman arrived to battle the creature.

Justice League[]

According to one account, Batman repaired the Batwing and began using it to patrol the streets of Gotham again. He could be seen using it whilst responding to a lit Bat-Signal.

Behind the Scenes[]

Most marketing material refers to the vehicle as the "Batwing", as has been the norm since 1989. However, it was referred to as the "Batplane" in articles advertising Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, creating a confusing naming discrepancy among consumers. The vehicle was primarily created through the use of computer-generated imagery, with the only physical part created being its cockpit. The vehicle was primarily inspired by Northrop Grumman X-47B, with its folding wings inspired by the vehicle's systems.
