Batman was the vigilante persona adopted by Bruce Wayne, a billionaire playboy and philanthropist living in Gotham City. Operating as a vigilante from 2000 to 2015, Batman patrolled the city fighting various criminals. During his last year of operations, Bruce ended his vigilante career after allegedly killing the Joker, subsequently going into exile for breaking his codes. In his absence, both his cousin Kate Kane and Ryan Wilder took over operations as "Batwoman" to cope with rising crime in Gotham because of his disappearance.
