The Burtonverse is the name given to the Earth 89 reality. It serves as the main setting for the Tim Burton films Batman and Batman Returns. The comic series Batman '89 and Batman '89: Echoes are also believed to take place in this reality.
In this reality, Batman was a lone vigilante who took on crime and corruption in Gotham by himself. In sharp contrast to most realities, his parents were the victims of a mobster called Jack Napier, who would later become a deranged criminal calling himself "the Joker". The Dark Knight also fought battles with other like-minded criminals, including sewer dwelling mobster Penguin, corrupt corporate mogul Max Shreck, and the feline vigilante Catwoman. Bruce Wayne also romanced with photojournalist Vicki Vale and secretary Selina Kyle. Several other accounts suggest the version also fought fallen District Attorney Two-Face and mentored the vigilante Robin.
The movies Batman Forever and Batman & Robin were originally purported to take place in the Burtonverse, though these have since been confirmed to take place in another reality/timeline.[1] The reality also temporarily merged with another universe when the latter's version of the Flash went back in time to prevent his mother's murder, though this was later undone after a later attempt which exonerated his father.

Notes[]
- In Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1, a version of the Burtonverse that has been amalgamated with the Donnerverse, the main setting for the Superman film series, appears. It is given the designation "Earth 789", a combination of the years Superman: The Movie and Batman were first released. It is stated that Batman, Superman, and Supergirl are the only heroes.
- During Walter Hamada's time as DC Film's chief, the Burtonverse was intended to be permanently merged with the "DC Extended Universe" so that Michael Keaton's Batman could appear in later entries. This would have also been the case in the unreleased Batgirl film, which would have established his version as the main Batman going forward. However, these plans were discarded after the merger with Discovery.
