A car chase down Eastside Freeway took place roughly on November 3rd of Batman's second year. The chase was a result of the Penguin fleeing a gunfight outside of the Eastside Depot and Batman giving chase in his car. The chase ended in Penguin's capture, though Batman's determination to capture him forced the mobster to cause a crash that took the lives on multiple drivers on the freeway.

Background[]

After discovering that the Falcone Crime Syndicate took over Salvatore Maroni's drug operation, Batman, Lt. Gordon and members of the syndicate engaged in a gunfight after the vigilante was discovered confronting Selina Kyle. During the fight, Batman fled into the Batmobile and revved up the engines, though stalled before he could drive towards Penguin. This led to Penguin getting into his own in his 2013 Maserati Quattroporte VI, whilst Batman pursued him and the other syndicate members fled.

Chase[]

The chase began as Batman drove towards Penguin's Maserati, leading the mobster to take flight in his car. They quickly left the warehouse and continued through the district. Penguin drove through empty lots and roads to lose Batman, eventually driving down a narrow bend. Due to the weight of the Batmobile's modifications, Batman was unable to slow down to turn the bend, continuing on into the lot. Penguin drove along the road thinking he'd lost Batman. However, the vigilante managed to navigate back to the road he'd lost him down, crashing through a barrier to get onto it.

As Penguin continued on course, Batman rammed the Batmobile into the Maserati's tail, though the mobster kept his nerve and continued. Eventually, Batman built up enough speed to drive up next to Penguin, using the then-quiet opposite side to build up his speed. In response, Penguin drew an Uzi and fired upon the Batmobile's driver seat, though discovered the car had been shielded with bulletproof glass. Realizing a truck was approaching on his side, Batman continued on the opposite side until the last possible moment, managing to drive out of the way and avoid the approaching traffic. Penguin, however, managed to swerve into an access road to the freeway. After recovering control, Batman drove onto the access road in pursuit.

Penguin drove onto the . After stopping following a minor crash, he saw Batman approaching and continued to escape. Both cars navigated the opposing traffic and moved onto the side with traffic going in their direction. Penguin continued onward until blocked by multiple vehicles driving at a lower speed. This allowed Batman to catch up in. In a moment of despairation, Penguin hit the breaks and purposely crashed into the truck behind him, causing it to collide with other vehicles. Noticing the build-up, Batman stopped, narrowly avoiding the contents of a truck from crashing onto him.

Realizing Penguin was causing the pile-up, Batman . He used the reinforced front of the car to crash through a pipe. As he approached a vehicle ramp, Batman activated the Batmobile's jet engine, building his speed up to jump over the wreckage. Before this, the pileup was engulfed in several explosions, which Penguin believed to be have caught Batman. As the mobster celebrated, the Batmobile leapt out of the fireball at a great speed. It soon collided with Penguins Maserati, causing him and the vehicle to flip into the air spinning and crash down on its roof. This disabled both Penguin and his vehicle, allowing Batman to capture him.

Aftermath[]

Batman brought Penguin to an abandoned building, interrogating him alongside on Riddler's identity and the . The resulting meeting ended after they realized they'd misinterpreted one of the serial killer's clues, leaving Penguin behind whilst they investigated another lead. Penguin was recovered by the Syndicate and appeared to suffer no negative ramifications for causing the crash. No reports were shown regarding the chase and resultant pile-up, though it's believed multiple casualties occurred during to the latter.
