Catwoman, also known as Selina Kyle is a villainess who appears in Batman: Caped Crusader.

History[]

Selina Kyle was born into wealth and privilege, but she lost nearly everything when her father went to prison for tax fraud. She began stealing rare jewels to keep herself in an upper-class lifestyle, and to feel an adrenaline rush, but she was always caught; the family maid, Greta, bailed her out with what little remained of the Kyle family fortune, even though she often went months without receiving a paycheck.

In addition to committing thrill-seeking robberies, Selina also liked to take in stray cats; Greta often complained to her that the cost of feeding the cats alone was enough to bankrupt her.

"Kiss of the Catwoman"[]

While casing the museum she intends to target next, Selina meets fellow "old money" socialite Bruce Wayne, who engages her in flirtatious banter about her criminal record as they both admire his contribution to the museum - the string of pearls that his mother had worn the night she and his father were murdered. When Bruce punches out a paparazzo for making a disrespectful remark about his mother moments later, Selina becomes visibly enthralled.

The next day, Greta informs Selina that her bills are all long past due and that she is in danger of losing the mansion her parents bought for her. Determined to pay her own way and in need of another jolt of adrenaline, she breaks into the museum dressed in a cat-themed mask and hood and tries to steal the string of pearls donated by the Wayne family. Before she can take them, however, Batman - who, unbeknownst to her, is really Bruce Wayne - stops her and turns her over to the Gotham City Police Department. Nevertheless, the two costumed vigilantes are immediately attracted to one another.

Selina finds an ally in Harvey Dent, Gotham City's ruthlessly ambitious district attorney, who offers to get the charges against her dropped in return for a contribution to his upcoming mayoral campaign. She accepts, even though she is broke, and is soon set free with a slap on the wrist. She commits another robbery that very night, but Batman shows up once again to thwart her. She almost falls to her death, but Batman catches her and, on the safe descent to street level, she kisses him passionately, which distracts him enough for her to get away.

Fearing that the police are on to her, Selina flees her mansion with Greta and her cats in tow and hides out with them in an abandoned building. She then goes back to the museum to attempt once again to rob it, this time taking with her the biggest and fiercest cat in her litter - a panther - for protection against Batman. Sure enough, the Caped Crusader shows up to stop her from stealing the pearls and renders the big cat unconscious with knockout gas. Moments later, Detectives Arnold Flass and Harvey Bullock, two corrupt GCPD officers, show up and shoot her in the leg; she surrenders, but Flass tells Bullock to kill her anyway. Batman once again saves her, however, knocking out the dirty cops and bandaging her wounded leg.

Despite coming to Selina's aid, however, he still turns her over to the police, who throw her in jail. Greta, having finally had enough of Selina's antics, refuses to bail her out, while selling the mansion and taking all the profits for herself as payment for her lost wages, leaving an enraged Selina penniless.
