"The Land Behind the Light"[]

Synopsis[]

On a night away from crime fighting, Dick Grayson reads a book waiting for Batman to return late into the night. After "many hours", Batman returns and reveals he has been tracking a scientist called Dr. Marko. He asks for Dick to help him as Robin. After navigating thick fog, the two find Marko's residence and meet the scientist. He reveals he has been investigating a realm called the Fourth Dimension and has created a machine to enter it. After activating it, Marko walks into the light created as Batman skeptically confronts him. With him disappearing, both the Dark Knight and Robin decide to follow after him.

Batman and Robin find that the light is actually a gateway into an other world with giant trees and mountains. They are soon ambushed by a giant called Gorl, who accuses them of being spies for the "Small Ones", and takes them prisoner. After being imprisoned in a cell, Batman and Robin are able to escape by using a Batarang to latch one of their Silken Cords to the door's bars and climb out, slipping through the window. After navigating a giant staircase, they are confronted by a giant cat, which Batman is able to subdue with his raw strength. However, Gorl returns and recaptures them.

Batman and Robin are brought before the King of the Giants, who reveals they are planning to attack the Small Ones tomorrow. Believing the Dynamic Duo to be affiliated with the small ones or an attempt by the Small Ones to create giants of their own, the King orders their execution. However, Batman uses pepper to subdue the King and works with Robin to subdue both Gorl and his guard. Stealing the giants' cutlery to use as weapons, Batman and Robin make use of an umbrella to escape the castle.

Robin is then caught by a giant condor, with Batman stealing a giant child's model airplane to chase after the bird and rescue him. The plane soon runs out of gasoline, forcing them to land near a river. They are then attacked by a crocodile, which Batman fends off by throwing their giant fork at it.

Continuing down the river, they discover a city of small people and discover Dr. Marko, who introduces them as the Small Ones. Learning that the Giants are hunting them, Batman and Robin decide to help fend off the upcoming attack and help prepare the Small Ones for the invasion. On the day of the attack, Batman equips the Small Ones with various utilities, including bean shooters and planes fitted with insect bombs. These prove to be effective and force the Giants to retreat. However, one of the Giants remains behind and attacks Robin.

As the giant attacks, Dick is suddenly woken up by Bruce Wayne. It is revealed that the entire adventure has been a dream he experienced, having fallen asleep before Batman could return that night. Bruce discovers that the dream was brought on by a book on Giants and Dwarves, with him warning Dick that the material may give him nightmares.
