The Drifter was a dual identity used by Batman to patrol the streets of Gotham City. Unlike his Batsuit, the outfit allowed Bruce Wayne to blend into large crowds and environments without detection. Batman often deployed the drifter identity when he wanted to enter place subtly or perform surveillance without detection.

The Drifter's costume mainly consisted of heavy clothing, including a jacket and cargo pants. To disguise himself, Bruce wore a cap, hoodie and scarf to cover his face. He would sometimes apply face-paint if he had to change into the Batsuit quickly. The Drifter also carried a backpack containing the Batsuit and other equipment, including binoculars and a buzz saw.
Behind the Scenes[]
- The idea of Batman using a disguise to blend into Gotham's streets was taken from Batman: Year One, where Bruce deploys a civilian disguise in his first attempt of crime-fighting.[1] A similar idea was also present in Batman: Zero Year.
- The Drifter costume was heavily based on dock workers' workwear in Brooklyn. According to behind the scenes videos, this influence was suggested by Robert Pattinson.
