"Drops" was the name given to a narcotic used in Gotham City. Initially produced by the Maroni Organization, the drug was manufactured by the Falcone Crime Syndicate after Don Salvatore's arrest. By Batman's second year, drops were believed to be causing widely spread consequences across the city and efforts were being made to combat its influence. Addicts to drops were commonly referred to as "drop heads".

Effects[]

Drops were taken in by small droplets through the user's eyes. After an uncertain amount of time, they would induce a state of both hyperactivity and paranoia. Their affects also seemed to be intoxicating, as Gil Colson became more talkative with Selina Kyle whilst under their influence. Drops were also addictive and potentially caused psychologically damage after long term, though overdoses would often prove fatal.

History[]

Drops had been in use in Gotham during Edward Nashton's childhood, as he'd mentioned how other residents in the Gotham Orphanage had begun using them at the age of twelve. Before Batman's operations, the drug was primarily produced by the Maroni Crime Family, with Salvator Maroni overseeing most of its production. The drug had led to multiple problems in Gotham, including homelessness and drug-related deaths. Drops were also used in several criminal organizations and venues, including the Falcone Crime Syndicate hangout 44 Below.

At some point during a power struggle with Maroni, Carmine Falcone used knowledge of his operations to set up the mobster's arrest. Working alongside Don Mitchell Jr., Pete Savage and Gil Colson, he provided information on the Drops production, leading to a drug bust and Maroni's arrest. Despite this, Drops production continued under Falcone's control, overseen by his lieutenant Oswald Cobblepot / the Penguin. Members of the Syndicate also began to sell them directly, including in the Iceberg Lounge and Gotham's East End district. Drops usage was still high in Gotham by Batman's second year, with projects by the city failing to tackle its usage.

Trivia[]

  • Drops appear to share a number of similar effects to cocaine.
