Egbert was Alfred's cousin and night watchman of the Gotham City reservoir.
History[]
Batman (1960s series)[]
As part of Batman's plan to catch the Joker from polluting the reservoir with time pills, Alfred visits Egbert, who was on night watch, to relief him and take his place. At first, Egbert was apprehensive, but Alfred assures him he will do a good job catching the criminals while Egbert goes to a night club. After Egbert left, Alfred took his place by wearing Egbert's uniform and removing his glasses.
An hour later, the Joker, his men, and Cornelia broke into the reservoir through its ventilation duct, and after seeing the sleeping Alfred in Egbert's chair, the criminals carefully propped the ventilation grille against the wall, but it fell over, waking the disguised Alfred, who intimates Egbert. After holding them at gunpoint, the Joker tries to bribe Alfred with money (much to Alfred's shock about Egbert being bribed by criminals) and Cornelia tried to give him a drink of water laced with the time pills, but Alfred firmly refuses, and after a scuffle, he manages to grab the Joker's magic box, and after toying with it for a while, he freezes the Joker and his gang in place, and contacts Batman and Robin that he has the box.
When Alfred removes the key from the box, the Joker and his gang rush out and found out he's an imposter security guard. But before they could harm Alfred, Batman and Robin arrive, defeated the Joker and his gang, and took them to jail.
Later, Aunt Harriet arrived the reservoir asking for fuel for her car, she recognizes Alfred in Egbert's uniform with his glasses on, and as she starts to lecture him, he quickly removes his glasses and she apologizes to "Egbert" by thinking he was the Wayne's butler. Just then, Batman and Robin arrived with a snack for Alfred, and after seeing Aunt Harriet, they kindly gave her a can of fuel from the Batmobile.
Batman '66[]
Once a night watchman convicted for corruption, Egbert Pennyworth is delivered from a Wayne Foundation halfway house by his cousin Alfred. Thinking Alfred unbearably sanctimonious, and his life unfairly luxurious, Egbert overpowers Alfred and enters Wayne Manor posing as the faithful butler, meaning to burgle "his" master at the first opportunity.
However, while Egbert looks and sounds identical to Alfred, he possesses none of his cousin's knowledge in either housekeeping or Batman and Robin. Thus, he is quickly exposed by the Dynamic Duo, who "enlist" him on a case that requires him to cross a rope bridge hundreds of feet in the air. Terrified of heights, Egbert breaks down and confesses everything, including where he has kept the real Alfred captive.
Alfred is soon recovered, with minimal injury save to his honor - an injury he takes out on his unprincipled cousin.
