Gotham City is a large metropolitan city in New York. The city served as the main area of operations for the vigilante Batman, due to high levels of crime and corruption. During the vigilante's second year, Gotham was heavily affected by the serial killer and terrorist Riddler, including a catastrophic flooding.

Behind the Scenes[]
Gotham was designed by James Chinlund. The city was heavily inspired by both Chicago and Pittsburgh. Influence was also taken from Batman: Year One and various neo-noir films, including Chinatown, Kluke and several works by David Fincher. It was also decided to add unfinished building projects to suggest consequences from failed attempts at economic revival. To prepare the designs, Chinlund created the city in VR and showed them to Matt Reeves ahead of filming. These were also used to create sets for filming.[1]
Filming for Gotham's streets took place in a numbers of cities, including London, Liverpool and Glasgow. Pickup shots were also made on the streets of Chicago, which were previously used in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. In scenes overlooking the city's skyline, the production team used projectors with computer generated imagery created to simulate the city.[2]

- Unlike other versions of Gotham, this version is located in the state of New York rather than New Jersey.
- However, according to Victor Aguilar's driver's license seen in The Penguin episode "After Hours", Gotham City is located in New Jersey.
