The Gotham City Police Department (often referred to as the GCPD) was the police force in Gotham. Due decades of high-level crime and corruption, many officers on the force were on the payroll of various criminals, including Carmine Falcone and his Crime Syndicate. During Batman's early years, the GCPD either reluctantly worked the vigilante or distrusted him fully.
