Indian Hill is a research facility which acts as a division for Wayne Enterprises in the series Gotham. It serves as one of the major story arcs in the second season, having been previously referenced to in the first season.
Indian Hill is used as part of a black operations programme to design super-humans for military use. Hugo Strange oversees the experiments on people captured and brought to the facility. The Court of Owls enlist Strange to find a way to restore the dead, and he begins to carry out tests of dead bodies of Gotham's criminals to find the answer. To cover up their activities, Indian Hill uses a toxic waste dump as a front to trick the citizens of the city.
History[]
Originally Indian Hill was a toxic waste dump located on the Arkham District. It is acquired by Sal Maroni during a deal with Carmine Falcone when fighting over land on the Arkham District in the wake of the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Maroni later gave Indian Hill to Falcone in exchange for the life of The Penguin. Not having any use for the land, Falcone gave it to the Court of Owls. The Court turned it into a division for Wayne Enterprises to carry out their experiments, with the facility being accessed from an elevator in Arkham Asylum. When Hugo Strange took over as Chief of Psychiatry at the institute he is enlisted by the Court to carry out experiments on humans underneath the facility to discover how to bring back the dead.
After Penguin murders Fish Mooney by pushing her from a roof and into the Gotham River, Indian Hill employees recover the corpse and bring it to the facility, where it is preserved in a tube.
After Jerome Valeska is killed by Theo Galavan, his body is taken to Indian Hill and preserved.
Arsonist Bridgit Pike is brought to the facility after being badly burned, with her death being faked. Strange experiments on Bridgit and brainwashes her to become Firefly the "Goddess of Fire".
After James Gordon and The Penguin kill corrupt mayor Theo Galavan, Galavan's corpse is taken and preserved at the facility, with Strange taking special interest in Galavan.
After Mr. Freeze fails to commit suicide, his death is faked by Strange and he is imprisoned in Indian Hill in a specialised cell which keeps his body below subzero temperature. Strange hires Mr Freeze to help him on his goal to achieving reanimating the dead. Mr Freeze accepts the proposition, having nothing else left following the death of his wife Nora.
Strange successfully revives Theo Galavan back from the dead, although the process causes Galavan to lose his memories and believe himself to be the supposedly immoral warrior Azrael. Strange goes along with the delusion and implants the Azrael persona into Galavan's mind, plotting to use him as an assassin to kill James Gordon. Galavan is fitted with an outfit and provided a sword and Strange sends him out into Gotham to kill Gordon. Galavan/Azrael carries out a reign of terror lasting several days until he is finally killed for good after Penguin and Butch Gilzean blow him up with a bazooka.
