Guy Dax AKA Le Bossu (French: The Hunchback) is a French enemy of Batman and member of both the Club of Villains and the Black Glove. He is a murderous neurosurgeon who themes himself towards the character of Quasimodo from Victor Hugo's Notre Dame de Paris (1831).

History[]

Origins[]

Guy Dax is a respected French neurosurgeon with a hidden violent side. Dax married and had two daughters, all while harbouring violent urges against members of his own family. Due to society not allowing for his evil compulsions, he began dressing up as the hunchback Quasimodo from Victor Hugo's novel Notre Dame de Paris and employed henchmen dressed as gargoyles to assist in a life of crime.

Club of Villains[]

Guy Dax was recruited by occult psychologist Dr. Simon Hurt into becoming a member of the Club of Villains, a group dedicated to fighting Batman and similar vigilantes across the world. Bossu used his skills to afflict Batman with a chemical librium to break his mental capacity, before sending his gargoyles to assist fellow member King Kraken in an attack on the Batcave.

Using his neurosurgeon alias, Dax infiltrated Arkham Asylum where he had Batman and Nightwing institutionalized and where his men attacked Dr. Jeremiah Arkham. Within the facility, Dax also recruited Joker to join in on their scheme. Dax confided in Joker, revealing his true normal appearance and expressing envy at the Joker for having the background and appearance of a twisted villain while Bossu had to use a costume to imitate it. Joker proceeded by sadistically attacking and mutilating Dax's actual face while leaving him mute.

Injured, Dax later attempted to lobotomize Nightwing, only for Nightwing to defeat him and escape. After the club's plan failed, Dax was left stranded in Gotham where he had his plans foiled by Batman.
