Dr. Leslie Thompkins is Blackgate's resident doctor, formerly a social worker and physician running a free clinic in Park Row. She was first on the scene of the Wayne murders. Tragedy brought her into Bruce's life, and her kindness reminds Bruce of the mother he lost.
History[]
Prior to Batman: Arkham Origins[]
Formerly a social worker, Leslie Thompkins was a philanthropist who ran Gotham's Youth Crisis Centers, and a free clinic in Park Row.
She was the one who discovered the murder scene of Bruce Wayne's parents; comforting the traumatized child, she brought him away from the scene and called the authorities. She took Bruce into her care, and gave him a room, shared by another child she was caring for: Harvey Dent, whose father was an abusive alcoholic and whose mother had left.
Wayne and Dent grew to see her as a maternal figure, giving her presents on her birthday including a homemade coupon to a "fancy dinner" for which they promised to dress up, and afterwards watching a "boring grown-up movie" with her. On at least one occasion, she took them stargazing.
She endeavored to curb their more violent tendencies, which resulted from the boys' respective traumas. When Harvey promised to help Bruce track down his parents' killer and "make him pay", Thompkins discouraged this, emphasizing the difference between revenge and justice.
The Youth Crisis Centers eventually ran out of funding, after which, Thompkins ran the infirmary in Blackgate Prison. TYGER kept her on specifically to heal injured TYGER Security personnel.
Batman: Arkham Shadow[]
Thompkins and Dent ran a fundraiser at the Solomon Wayne Courthouse to re-start the Youth Crisis Centers, in the hope that giving young people better options would prevent them from seeking answers in a life of crime, such as with The Rats. She attempted to get Wayne to attend also, but Wayne was busy as Batman. The Rats attacked the fundraiser and took her and Dent hostage. Batman arrived to save them.
Thompkins treated Irving "Matches" Malone for fractured ribs after he was injured in a fight in prison, aware that he was Bruce Wayne in disguise. She encouraged Wayne to seek less violent methods in his war on crime. As he left, she showed him a scrapbook to remind him of happier times.
She was present at a pre-trial hearing for Malone, again at the Solomon Wayne Courthouse, during which Dr. Jonathan Crane was called upon to examine Malone. Crane attempted to dose Malone with a caustic chemical agent he called Project Umbra; Malone resisted and the agent was instead splashed on Harvey Dent's hand and face, disfiguring him on one side. Thompkins took Dent to the hospital.
A few days later, on the Rat King's "Day of Wrath", Batman discovered that Dent was the Rat King. Two days after that, Harvey woke in Leslie's Blackgate infirmary, where she informed him that he had dissociative identity disorder.
