"Oh Batman Honey, Moth's learned her lesson, really she has. Crime doesn't pay!"
―Moth[src]
"Unfortunately you learned your lesson too late Moth. A moth that plays around candles is bound to be burned."
―Batman[src]

Moth is a henchwoman of the Riddler in the Batman 1960s series. She is played by Linda Gaye Scott.

Though she knew deep down that turning to crime would get her in trouble and being smitten with Batman, her greed of wealth clouded her judgement and led to her capture.

Biography[]

Not much is known about Moth accept that the Riddler presumably hired her, promising her great wealth.

The Riddler had discovered a Universal Wax solvent, powerful enough to eat through anything if melted at the right points. He intended to use it to steal a Batman wax replica and put an image of himself in it's place. He succeeded and left behind two riddles on a tape recorder, to lure Batman and Robin to discover his crime. He then decides to steal a book from the Gotham City Library, using the wax solvent to break into the vault where it's kept.

While Riddler, Tallow and Matches are breaking into the vault, Moth stands guard near the librarians desk and as soon as she sees the Dynamic Duo, she warns them by using her compact communicator.

The Dynamic Duo find them and a battle breaks out, but the Prince of Puzzles uses his Doctor Riddler's Instant Forever-Stick Invisible Wax Emulsion to glue two heroes’ feet to the floor. This enables the Riddler and his gang to escape with the book. From the book, the Riddler finds the information he needs about the Incas.

When the Caped Crusaders track them down to their hideout, they are caught and Moth watches with the others as they are suspended over a vat of boiling wax that they would drop them into, thereby turning them into wax candles. However the fumes get too much for her and she persuades Riddler that they should watch from the candlescope.

From it, they watch Batman reflect a ray of light from his utility belt onto a vat of explosive oil, which blast him and Robin free from boiling wax, but in the process knock them unconscious. Believing them to be dead, the Riddler is delighted and wants to savor the moment, but an impatient Moth wants to collect the treasure straight away. She also isn't pleased when the Riddler rings Commissioner Gordon to let him know of the Dynamic Duo's demise and leave him another riddle. Riddler rebukes her saying that riddles are what he is all about. Afterwards they finally leave for the museum where the Incan treasure and sarcophagus are being held.

When they reach the museum, Riddler and Moth go to the storage room, whilst Tallow and Matches stand guard where Moth looks around in disgust by the medieval torture devices kept there. To both their shock, Matches and Tallow bring an alive Robin to them. Robin tells them that he may be alive but Batman is dead and he will avenge his demise. Angered by these words, Riddler tells Tallow and Matches to tie Robin to one of the medieval torture devices called the rack.

They finally find the case containing the Incan treasure and sarcophagus. Riddler wastes no time in applying the wax solvent to the lock on the case so it will burn through and open it. However they are suddenly engulfed in a Bat-shadow and are shocked to see Batman, right behind them, alive and well too. Angry at Robin for lying to him about Batman, Riddler then goes with his men for a furious fist-fight. Batman sets Robin free, puts out the wax solvent and traps Riddler and his henchmen in each one of the medieval torture devices.

During the fight, Moth attempts to flee, only to fall backwards into another one of the medieval torture devices called the Maiden's Bath where she is then trapped by Batman for the police. When they arrive she tries to persuade Batman that she has learnt her lesson, but Batman rebukes her, saying that she learned her lesson too late by allowing her greed to get her too knee deep in Riddler's scheme ("A moth that plays around candles is bound to be burned."). To her shock, she is then taken away with the Riddler and the others and sent to prison.
