Nyesha Burroughs was an infant resident of Burnside. She became a prominent victim during the conflict between Batman and the National Guard.
Biography[]
Having lost their mother, Nyesha was raised under the care of her teenaged brother in a Burnside apartment. During the citywide curfew, her brother was forced to steal supplies for her. When Batman to confront them, Nyesha was scared by the vigilante. She appeared to settle down when another vigilante saved them.[1] After her brother was killed in the crossfire of a confrontation between Batman and the National Guard, the Dark Knight heard her crying for attention.
In the aftermath, Nyesha was taken into social services. Though her name was never released by officials, news of her situation spread through Gotham. Feeling guilt for his actions, Bruce Wayne would offer to fund Burnside's children, mention her by name during the meeting with Burnside's Council. This later tipped Harvey Dent to his involvement in Batman's crusade.[2]
After Dent's defeat, Drake Winston suggested to Wayne to set Nyesha up to be adopted, suggesting that giving her a trust fund wouldn't help her emotionally and only make her a target for others. He then suggested setting up adoption by his sister. Bruce later had a dream of him adopting Nyesha with Selina Kyle.[3]
