Pat Pending is the world's richest and cheapest inventor who appeared in the Batman TV show with his valet, Rudy.

He lives and works in a loft which he fashioned as his workshop and keeps his money inside his mattress instead of keeping it in banks.
As Pending was telling Rudy that he keeps his money in his mattress, Catwoman and her henchmen arrived and stole the money, injuring Pending and Rudy in the process. While hospitalized, Pending tells Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara that he and Rudy overheard Catwoman saying something about Prince Ibn Kereb of Gedallia being weighted with the same amount of money given to a children's charity. Realizing that the prince is Catwoman's next robbery, Gordon and O'Hara ran off to the elevator to notify Batman.
After recovering in hospital, Pending somehow managed to gain more money while Rudy went to market. While Pending was counting his money, Gordon and O'Hara arrived to arrest him, thinking he is Batman and Rudy is Robin, due to Batman redirecting the Batphone's signal to Pending's apartment. After telling him that they just arrested Rudy while he was at the market, Gordon and O'Hara drag a protesting Pending to police headquarters. After Gordon and O'Hara cleared up their mistake with Batman and Robin, Pending and Rudy were released from jail.
