Remote Control Batarangs were gadgets used by Batman. A special Batarang variant, it could be controlled remotely to maneuver around objects, distract opponents and bypass certain obstacles. The Remote Control Batarang could also be programmed to circle around enemies and hit them from behind.
Gameplay[]
Batman: Arkham Asylum[]
Batman will not be equipped with the Remote Control Batarang at the start of the game, with it available via the WayneTech upgrades. After being thrown, the player will be able to control the Batarang to navigate around corners and attack multiple foes at once. Once throw, the gadget will need to "recharge" before it can be used again. If the Batarang is aimed at Batman, he will catch it in midair before it hits him. This will unlock an achievement/trophy called "Catch".
Batman: Arkham City[]
The Remote Control Batarang's functionality is improved in the sequel and is available from the start of the game. The player can change the speed of the Batarang to either accelerate, brake or make a turn in the opposite direction. If sent through an electrical current, the Remote Control Batarang will become electrically charged, allowing the player to activate fuse boxes or incapacitate foes instantly. After an encounter with Ra's al Ghul, Batman will be able to access the "Reverse Batarang". This can be used to travel around foes to hit them from the opposite direction and distract others nearby.
Batman: Arkham Origins[]
The Remote Control Batarang retains the same functionality from Arkham City. However, the Reverse-Batarang function will only be unlocked after completing the Mad Hatter's side quest.
Batman: Arkham Knight[]

The Remote Control Batarang returns in the final game with improved functionality. Notably, the gadget can now bounce off objects if it is travelling at high speeds and the Reverse-Batarang function is now a WayneTech upgrade. The Remote Control Batarang also acts as a miniature scouting device called the "Bat-Scanner", with Batman using it at several points to scout or scan areas of Gotham. It can also be used in Invisible Predator sections to detect Optic-Camouflaged Malia Thugs and deactivate micro-explosives planted into thugs by Riddler (provided they're electrically charged first).
Notes[]
- The Batarang shares a number of similarities with the Super-Batarang from Batman Returns and the Sonar Batarang from Batman Forever. Remote Controlled Batarangs also featured in The Batman animated series, most notably in "The Cat and the Bat".
- The Remote Control Batarang is the only special Batarang variant, aside from regular ones, that appears in all four main Batman: Arkham titles.
