An unnamed man was a member of Riddler's Followers. He was among the group who attempted to assassinate Bella Reál and was the last to be captured by Batman.
Biography[]
The follower's life before the attack is unknown, though it's presumed he suffered from the exploitation of the Gotham Renewal Corporation. He began following the Riddler before or during his attacks, becoming radicalized to help attack Gotham's political structure. After Riddler's capture, he and other followers decided to fulfil their leader's plans to tear down Gotham's corrupt political structure, answering his call to assassinate Bella Reál at Gotham Square Garden.
The Battle at Gotham Square Garden[]
The man assembled with other Riddler followers in the rafters of Gotham Square Garden during Gotham's flooding. As Reál went up stage to calm the crowds, he and the others began shooting at her. During the attack, Batman arrived to stop the group. The follower presumably took part in the fight and attempted to shoot the vigilante on multiple occasions.
The follower became the last man standing after Batman subdued the other members. Knocked down during his first direct confrontation with the vigilante, the follower backed away and grabbed a shotgun, using it to blast Batman from the walkway. With the Dark Knight hanging from the walkway, the follower reloaded the gun and prepared to execute him at point-blank range. However, before he could pull the trigger, he was attacked and subdued from behind by Catwoman.
Moments after she pulled Batman to safety, the follower regained consciousness. Using their intimacy to his advantage, he attacked Catwoman and attempted to stab her with a knife. During their struggle, Batman regained energy through an Adrenaline Shot and attacked the follower. Tackling him to the ground, the vigilante proceeded to beat the man without stopping. However, Lt. Gordon and the GCPD arrived, stopping the vigilante from continuing.
"Me? I'm Vengeance"
The officers then unmasked the follower to identify him and assess his injuries. When enquired about his identity, he only referred to himself as "Vengeance", unknowingly or purposefully immitating Batman. After the attack, the follower was arrested and presumably held in either Blackgate or Arkham.
Behind the Scenes[]
- The follower is portrayed by Bronson Webb, who also portrayed one of the Joker’s bounty hunters in The Dark Knight. He was uncredited for the role.
- Many sources refer to the character as "Hooded Gunman".
