Just as he is about to kill his latest victim, the vampire Batman appears, brutally noting that Scarecrow is almost worse than him; he now has no choice but to kill, but Scarecrow has a choice and yet he chose to prey on innocents. Scarecrow blubbers that his victims were not innocent and that they tormented him and scared him. Batman grabs Scarecrow's phial of fear gas, crushing it along with Crane's hand, stating that Crane has no idea what fear is as he uses Crane's own sickle to cut off his head.

Jonathan Crane of Earth-43 was, like in many realities, the villain Scarecrow and an adversary of Batman, who had become a vampire.

History

Pre-Crimson Mist

The full details of Jonathan Crane's life in this reality are unknown. Although Commissioner Gordon referred to Scarecrow as a 'new freak' when discussing Gotham's crime wave with Alfred, when Batman found him he was clearly terrified at Batman's new appearance, calling him a 'monster', suggesting that he had confronted Batman at least once before Batman became a vampire.

Crimson Mist

Some time after Batman's 'disappearance', Crane began a murder spree, targeting the jocks who used to torment him in school.

Appearance

The Scarecrow of Earth-43 was a more obviously brutal individual than most incarnations. Although he still relied heavily on his fear-gas, this Scarecrow's traditional M.O. included brutally assaulting his victims with a hand-held sickle knife. His suit was also adorned with laces of severed fingers from past victims.
