An abandoned subway station used by the Batman as his hideout. Located underneath Wayne Tower, it was originally a private station for the family called Wayne Terminus. Abandoned by Bruce's adulthood, he often the station to store and develop his equipment, along with aid his investigations as the Batman. The Batcave was connected to a series of tunnels and forgotten entrances, which allowed Batman to give slip to pursuers without detection.

History[]

Wayne Terminus was presumably constructed alongside Wayne Tower. By Bruce Wayne's childhood, the station was abandoned due to the lack of usage. However, Bruce discovered it in his teenage years, using it to hide his armored car for street-racing. His guardian Alfred was also aware of its existence, though did not reveal his knowledge until the aftermath of a bombing incident.[1]

By Wayne's operations as Batman, Wayne Terminus had been converted into a hidden lair for the vigilante. It was often used to secretly develop and store Batman's vehicles and equipment, including armored uniform, computer system and high-powered roadster. Its entrances included an elevator connected to the Wayne penthouse and an abandoned trainline connected to Gotham's underground tunnels, which was used by Batman's vehicles. A series of electronic shutters were present to prevent accidental intrusions into the station. It is currently unknown whether the Batcave was affected by the Flooding of Gotham City.

Behind the Scenes[]

Peter Craig's depiction of the bunker is similar to the version seen in Batman: Earth One, as an abandoned subway used by the Outsiders as a hideout. However, Batman had also used a series of abandoned subway stations as Satellite Batcaves, most notably the Batcave South-Central. The idea was also inspired by urban legends of wealthy New York families owning their own private subway stations.
