Production
The film was reshot and edited because of the negative reception to the first trailer and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with trailer editors and executives making the film more comedic on the trails of Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy, contradicting David Ayer's vision. They also reduced Jared Leto's screentime.
Reaction
Critical analysis
Professional critics generally did not favor the movie, the third act being almost universally panned.
#ReleaseTheAyerCut Movement
After the notoriety of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, which helped green light Zack Snyder's Justice League during the COVID era need for new streaming content for HBO Max, some fans thought this would work again in the case of David Ayer. Several actors, including Jared Leto approved of the movement. However, Ann Sarnoff confirmed they would not purse an Ayer cut, explaining that WarnerMedia would not buckle to pressure from a small 'toxic' group of fans.[1]
