During this, flashbacks describe the events that took place in the past, when Batman confronted Freeze for the final time with the aid of Oracle and Nightwing. After his defeat, Freeze placed himself in a cryogenic machine, planning to freeze himself and reawaken in the future, when Batman was no longer around. Batman, suspecting that Freeze was in fact not dead, recorded a message into the very walls of the Bat cave, that explain how to defeat Freeze, should he reappear. After learning this, Freeze was confronted in the current future by not one, but several Batmen who managed to knock him out. The Batmen turned out to be merely holographic disguises worn by the future Gotham PD, in order to remind Freeze that where ever he goes, Batman is always watching him. |

Artifacts is the seventh episode of the fourth series of The Batman. It is set in the future.
Overview
In the future, Gotham City is terrorized by a dangerous villain from its past. The city must discover how to defend itself from this threat without the Batman. An excavation team locates the Bat cave and begins searching clues on how to stop the recently awoken Mr. Freeze. During this, flashbacks describe the events that took place in the past, when Batman confronted Freeze for the final time with the aid of Oracle and Nightwing. After his defeat, Freeze placed himself in a cryogenic machine, planning to freeze himself and reawaken in the future, when Batman was no longer around.
