The Joining are an extraterrestrial, mental, technological, societal, militant manifestation with a determination to conquer and destroy worlds across the Galaxy, such as Earth. As Martian Manhunter (John Jones) told Batman, their first victims were their creators, a race of ancient aliens of mostly unknown origin. The Joining are reminiscent of Brainiac (an enemy of Superman), as they lust to learn everything there is to know and conquer and destroy Earth. Though their methods of attack are direct and their Units are effectively walking attack-bots and large weapons platforms, they rely on the use of replicants or duplicates to perform reconnaissance and to covertly initiate the invasion of a targeted planet.
History[]
In the two part episode, The Joining, they attacked Earth, causing destruction everywhere, and Batman, the police and with assistance from villains such as Joker, Penguin, Bane and Mr Freeze even working together to save Gotham. The Joining were seemingly destroyed at first. However, they later returned to Earth, with a far sneakier approach. Their initial attack was a sort of test to probe Earth's defenses. Their second attack came with the help of Dr. Hugo Strange, who consumed the powers of the Justice League, and gave them to the Joining. The heroes got back their powers, and destroyed the member of the Joining holding them, and the Joining's operating base was destroyed, along with the rest of the army of Joining duplicates.
