"Chapter 5: Blinded by the Light"[]
Synopsis[]
Following his discoveries with the Renewal Program, Edward feels he has found a purpose and dedicates himself to following Batman's example. He soon maps out Falcone's organization's structure and learns of his deal with Colson to get rid of Maroni and take over his organization. Believing Gotham's citizens are believing or turning a blind eye the lies of Falcone's allies, Edward's nihilism takes control, leading him to decide to attack both the city and Falcone's allies together. He soon decides to coincide it with the upcoming mayoral election and begins creating an identity for him to use.
Moving to an apartment overlooking the Iceberg Lounge, Edward begins collecting photographic evidence of Falcone's allies and their involvement with him. He also continues investigating Renewal at Mountain Security and begins transitioning away from Nigma to ensure his plans remain quiet. Edward eventually captures photos of Michell outside the nightclub with the woman Batman rescued and begins investigating how Higgins killed John Joon. His idealization of Batman also continues.
During a break away from investigating Falcone, Edward, after months of struggling to come up with an identity, realizes he can use questions as a motif. He soon decides on the identity "Riddler". Edward also continues developing his costume and devices to kill his targets, including a neck bomb and a cage of rats. During an investigation into the Wayne accounts, Edward uncovers Thomas Wayne's involvement in the murder of Edward Elliot. He also learns that KTMJ helped hide these, leading him to conclude that the Waynes had an association to Falcone and destroying his image of the billionaire. With the last vestiges of hope gone, he decides to target the whole of Gotham.
As Halloween approaches, Edward begins planning to kill Falcone's allies and flood Gotham, planning to destroy the Sea Walls surrounding the city. He soon begins setup of his new website, setting up methods to ensure that only the smartest and most dedicated of those who suffered because of the corrupt can access it. Edward soon uses the platform to gather followers, allowing him to inform them of his discoveries and recruit them into his plans. He soon completes his costume with a winter combat mask, completing the creation of "the Riddler".
In the present, Edward returns home after buying more equipment from a hardware store under a false identity. With his followers now building, he begins to finalize development for his plans to tip off Batman and kill Falcone. As he unpacks his buys, Edward pulls out a carpet tucker to tear out his rug and begin painting his map of Gotham...
