A homemade time-bomb was made by the Thin Clown. It featured three sticks of nitro painted like candy canes and an old wind-up alarm clock.
History[]
Battle in the Streets of Gotham[]
After the Poodle Lady and her Ratty Poodle stole the Super-Batarang, the Thin Clown ran toward Batman with this bomb strapped to his chest. Batman used the sword he had just taken from the Sword Swallower to cut it from the chest of the screaming suicide bomber and promptly knocked him unconscious.
Batman made his way toward Gotham Plaza cathedral still carrying the ticking time-bomb in his left hand. A scrawny clown tried to jump on him from the shadows of the cathedral but Batman grabbed the clown with his right arm without looking and hurled him into the street without breaking his stride. Batman was then stopped in his tracks by the Tattooed Strongman, who had punched him in the abdominal armor. Instead of getting into a brawl, Batman tricked the Strongman by tucking the bomb into his sash after feigning to deliver the strongest punch he could manage. He quickly knocked him down with a truly forceful blow into a large underground construction opening right before the timer on the bomb went off.

Background Information and Notes[]
In Denny O'Neil's edited version of the script for the DC Comics version, he had penciler Steve Erwin draw Batman tossing the bomb safely down a manhole. One of many elements of censorship put in place by DC.
