The Three Devils AKA the Daredevils are a group of supervillain enemies to Batman and Robin who have adept acrobatic abilities. They first appeared in Detective Comics #50 in the April of 1941 and were created by Bill Finger.
History[]
Golden Age (Earth-Two)[]
Origins[]
The Three Devils were originally acrobats and Daredevils. They decided to start using their abilities for robberies.
Detective Comics[]
The criminal activities of the Devils attracted the attention of Batman and Robin but the three used their abilities to evade the Dynamic Duo. Robin later tried to follow them to their hideout only for the three to try and murder the Boy Wonder who narrowly escaped with his own acrobatic abilities. The duo later confronted them a third time and managed to defeat then arrest them.
Silver Age (Earth-One)[]
The villains returned in the Silver Age under the name of the Daredevils, all while retaining their original origins, costumes and even fence.
The Dynamic Duo first came to fight the Three Devils during a time when Dick Grayson was exposed to gas from a space object brought to Earth by Superman. The gas caused Dick to spontaneously age to be as old as Batman and in-doing so he decided to take up the new persona of Owlman.
Problematically for the Dynamic Duo, Owlman was not well adapted to his new adult body and as such was made easy work of by the three acrobats, at one point even knocking himself out by forgetting to duck under. metal bar. When Owlman admitted his own faults, he and Batman were able to team up to defeat the Daredevils. Shortly after, the effects of the gas wore off and Dick was transformed back into a teenager.
Locked away in prison, the Daredevils blamed Owlman for their defeat and decided to become obsessed with tracking down the defunct superhero, unknowing of him having been Robin.
