The Werewolf (Anthony Lupus) is a mutated human/canine hybrid and an enemy of Batman.

History[]

Anthony Lupus was an Olympic athlete who unknowingly had a dormant gene for clinical lycanthopry. The gene caused Anthony to suffer from intense migraines which he sought out the criminal scientist Professor Achilles Milo to try and treat. Milo gave Lupus a chemical serum derived from DNA of the Alaskan Timberwolf to treat his headaches but as a side-effect it triggered Lupus's dormant lycanthropy and caused him to transform into a wolf-man.

Once Milo realized what he had done, he agreed to formulate a cure for Anthony if he killed Batman for him. Milo set a trap for Batman in an abandoned lot and then proceeded to release the rabid Anthony on him. Batman and Anthony proceeded to fight with Batman only managing to defeat him by putting him in the way of a lightning bolt.

Batman presumed Werewolf to be deceased but in reality Anthony survived and covertly moved to Alaska. Knowing that he was unable to control his rampages, Anthony lived in isolation where he hunted wolves for six years. Unbeknownst to Anthony, back in Gotham his sister Angela was dying and needed a bone-marrow transplant to survive. After Batman learned of this, he became informed of how Lupus had survived so the Dark Knight chose to travel to Alaska to persuade him to donate bone-marrow. Upon finding Werewolf, he trapped him in a silver net and pleaded with him to donate his bone-marrow and that in-return he would fund research for a cure to his condition. Lupus agreed and returned to Gotham.
