Biography[]
Zach had grown up in a richer background and had been able to gain an unspecified degree, presumably in law. He was employed at the law firm KTMJ during Batman's first year. Despite working there for five months, Zach gained a high position because of his father and served as Edward Nashton's case leader, often taking credit for Nashton's achievements and referred to him as "Rain Man". He also routinely flirted with female coworkers.
The Riddler: Year One[]
In November that year, Zach checked on Edward's progress on a case. He learned that Edward had not only completed it but also finished research a divorce case ahead schedule. Despite being impressed, Zach suggested he slowed down to allow everyone else to catch up. Despite this, he submitted the findings of the case and took credit for them.
Having impressed the team with Edward's work, the criminal team assigned Zach to investigate the accounts for an animal rescue shelter. Deciding take it on and not enquire further, he passed it over to Edward to sign it off quickly. Zach brushed off Edward's enquiries and suggested its completion could mean better things for [him].
The following day, Zach was talking to a colleague when Edward interrupted them. Though he was angry that he'd interrupted him, he listened and learned that Edward had discovered a series of payments designed to discreetly deposit $10,000 a week to a parent company. When Edward suggested it could be dirty money, Zach decided to report them to their boss Mr. Stone, taking credit for Edward's findings again. Zach's suspicions were brushed off by Stone, who invited him for lunch to prevent further complications. As he left, he reported Stone's comments to Edward. He was presumably promoted over the lunch.
The following night, Zach was invited by Stone to the Iceberg Lounge. Upon arrival, he was introduced to Annika Kosolov, who promised to "take care" of him that night.
